Abeni (Aïssa Maïga)

Abeni and her family fled violence to make a new life in Europe. In Dublin Abeni works illegally as a cleaner, a job that exposes her to dangerous people and situations.

Detective Inspector Jen Rooney (Lynn Rafferty)

Tough, smart and relentless, Inspector Rooney has had to battle hard to rise in the ranks and battles hard to stay there. She is heading the murder investigat­ion.

Wayne (Brian Gleeson)

Wayne is manager of the Direct Provision Centre, seemingly affable but with connection­s to the underworld.

Matt (Barry Ward)

Matt is a Detective Inspector in the Drugs Squad but helps out Rooney on occasion: not surprising as the couple have an on-off relationsh­ip.

Niamh (Orla Fitzgerald)

Inspector Rooney’s best friend and right-hand woman, she is a woman with ‘no filter’ but is also a straight-talker, ready to call it as it is.

Mac (Gavin O’Connor)

A junior member in Rooney’s team, Mac is slovenly in appearance and not too motivated but has the occasional bright spark moment.

Gar

(Jimmy Smallhorne)

Gar is a chameleon and a chancer who runs a brothel with some other shady characters and exploits his connection­s with the DP Centre.

Samir (Slimane Dazi)

Grew up in Algeria, survived a tough childhood before escaping to Spain by boat. Now lives in the Direct Provision Centre where he befriends Abeni and her family.
