Cooking All Stars

-

According to some new research carried out for SuperValu, more than 91% of parents of primary school children believe children should be taught how to cook in school. Not only do they see this as an important life skill, but they also believe it will encourage children to make healthier life choices.

To help kids learn the basics, SuperValu has launched Cooking All-Stars, a programme designed to teach primary school children the crucial life skill of cooking to ensure the next generation are future-proofed when it comes to being healthier and more confident in the kitchen. All isn’t lost, though, as the survey found that 85% of parents of primary school children cook at home most days, with 69% involving their children in preparing meals. Cooking All-Stars aims to improve the range of basic skills children can use in the kitchen and help them understand the benefits of healthy nutritious food and how easy it is to make. The kids will learn skills like preparing vegetables and safely cooking recipes like scrambled eggs, banana pancakes and even a delicious quesadilla.

To get started, SuperValu is sending each participating school a cooking kit which includes a large range of cooking utensils and equipment, a recipe book and each school will receive training on how to use the programme in the classroom. See shop.supervalu.ie for information.
