e saga over baby Abi escalates this week as Cora gets hold of some informatio­n that could damage Max’s chances of getting custody. It begins with a bombshell for Max and Rainie as they receive a letter from Cora’s solicitor stating that their marriage is illegitima­te due to Rainie’s in delity with Jack. is leads to a confrontat­ion between the two brothers, while Rainie begs Max to forgive her. Max, however, is furious about the consequenc­es for his custody battle. Neverthele­ss, he cannot help but wonder where Cora got her informatio­n from, and vows to deny everything in the hope she might be blu ng.

Later, Rainie extends an olive branch to Cora, suggesting they ought to do what’s best for Abi. However, Cora is in no mood to compromise and as tensions mount, she ends up lashing out at Rainie, leaving her injured and in need of hospital treatment. Seeing this, Max takes advantage of the chaos and makes a hasty retreat with baby Abi, taking refuge with Stacey and asking her for help. However, grandfathe­r and granddaugh­ter are not reunited for long as the police turn up to take the little one away. Learning that Abi has been taken away and is being cared for by social services, a devastated Rainie decides to press charges against Cora for her earlier violent response. She and Max then approach Ian to apologise for the trouble they have caused, and he agrees to withdraw his support for Cora’s custody applicatio­n. But despite this positive developmen­t, Max remains concerned that Rainie’s volatility has permanentl­y hindered his prospects of gaining custody of his granddaugh­ter. Will Rainie’s statement to the police do more harm than good? Elsewhere, there’s plenty more turmoil in the o ng for Hayley, who is at rst in high spirits having managed to get her baby to settle. However, her elation is short-lived as Bev sets about trying to put her o motherhood by criticisin­g her every move. But that isn’t the limit of her plans, and when Hayley overhears her on the telephone, she is horri ed by what her mother is trying to do. Desperate for help, Hayley secretly reaches out to Jean, but Bev gets wind of this and prevents Jean from getting too close. Later, Bev makes Kat a lucrative o er if she can help get Hayley to come around to her way of thinking with regard to her baby.

Meanwhile, Ti any inadverten­tly lands herself in all kinds of trouble as she makes a feisty new friend called Evie in McKlunky’s. Evie’s uninhibite­d boldness initially impresses Ti any, and the pair end up getting to know each other over lunch, but there is a shock in store. Ti any then incurs Whitney’s anger by skipping school to meet Evie again, and this time, her new friend has a troubling favour to ask.

ere’s relief for Dot when Dr Legg assuages her fears about the content of his letter. However, the pair get a nasty shock when they pay a visit to his parents’ grave to discover that it has been vandalised.
