The news that Daphne Du Maurier’s

Rebecca is getting the big-budget miniseries treatment from Netflix will be greeted with cautious optimism by fans of the classic yarn. Hitchcock’s original

1940 classic was perfectly cast and highly praised by the author herself, despite the fact that it diluted a key plot point. It’s hard to imagine anyone better than Olivier as Maxim de Winter,

Judith Anderson as Mrs Danvers, Joan

Fontaine as the second Mrs de Winter; or even Florence Bates as the beastly Mrs Van Hopper. The new production will star Lily James (above) and Armie Hammer, but the key casting will be that of evil Mrs Danvers; one of the great literary creations.

Fans of Patrick Dempsey will be heartened by the news that Dr McDreamy will soon be back on the small screen for a new ten-part Sky series, Devils, a tale of dirty dealings in the European banking sector. Dempsey will channel his inner Gordon Gekko to play an American investment banker with great hair and great suits but few scruples.

Following her success with the TV drama series, Picnic at Hanging Rock and that co ee advert with George

Clooney, Natalie Dormer has signed up for another eye-catching TV role.

The Games of Thrones star will take the lead role in the upcoming biopic of the brilliant but troubled English actress,

Vivien Leigh. No word on the rest of the cast, but perhaps Natalie could ask her caffeine buddy to take on the role of Laurence Olivier?
