The CEO of WW is excited about the big changes in the company, making the focus around the world about helping people who want to become healthier, as well as to lose weight in a sustainable way

When Jean Nidetch set out to lose weight in 1961, she chose a science-based eating programme from the New York City Department of Health. But she knew that a programme alone was not enough for her. And, thinking it might not be enough for others, she gathered a group of friends to form a community of allies.

Together, they didn’t just lose the weight – they transformed their lives in deep and extraordinary ways. More than that, they were inspired to help others do the same. A lot has changed since the 1960s. Thanks to the power of technology, we are arguably more connected now than ever, yet we crave more meaningful connections. We are spoiled for options when it comes to food, but we are overwhelmed by how to make the healthiest choices for ourselves and our families. We seem to have unending ways to get active – from boxing classes and fun runs to yoga retreats, but we struggle to make the time and find the energy.

It’s the wellness paradox: we truly want to get healthy, and yet we – as a society, as a world – are getting unhealthier. That’s exactly the problem that we want to help solve. And so, we have embarked on an exciting journey from being the global leader in weight management to becoming the world’s partner in wellness.

Earlier this year, we declared our

purpose: we inspire healthy habits for real life. For people, families, communities, the world – for

everyone. We will always have the best weight-loss programme on the planet, but now we’re putting our decades of experience in behaviourchange science to work for an even greater mission. We aim to be the company that democratises wellness for all.

To play a different role in people’s lives, we need to change the conversation. We’re doing a lot of things differently, but we’re also saying a lot of things differently. If you go to what used to be called a Meeting, you’ll find it’s now called a Workshop and held in a Studio. We are moving from WeightWatchers to WW – rooted in the familiar but reimagined to welcome everyone who seeks to be healthier, not just manage their weight. To reinforce that we have always delivered the world’s most effective programmes – and will continue to – we also have a new tagline: Wellness that Works.

It’s a promise that no matter what your goal is – to lose weight, eat healthier, move more, develop a more positive mindset, or all of the above – we will bring you sciencebased programmes, tools and experiences that work and fit into your life.

You will see WW show up in new ways and new places. We hope that it feels surprising yet familiar. Because while we know that we can change the lives of so many more people, we are deeply proud of the millions we have helped over the past 57 years.

We feel honoured to carry on the legacy of Jean Nidetch and all the members of our community – past, present, and future.
