Mellow yellow

- w ith Jess O Su l l ivan

Yellow is a bold colour to introduce into any home, but thanks to the burst of popularity of Scandinavia-inspired interiors, yellow has gone from country to cool. Da odils have popped up early (again) this year, so why not take your cue from the heralds of the Irish spring and dot this happy shade around your space? Yellow accents work well with bold true black, or bring a bright touch to neutral beige or grey.

You can make a big commitment to the colour and buy a feature piece of furniture, such as an armchair. e Camden range by French Connection, which is available exclusively at DFS, includes everything from a four-seater sofa to a storage footstool. It comes in a choice of cotton fabric in a range of colours including the yellow shade of this armchair, €699, pictured.

For an inexpensive way to add the shade to your room’s permanent xtures, upcycle plain open shelving with yellow adhesive contact paper. It’s easy to apply and there are lots of inexpensive options in an array of colours on amazon.com.

Make a serious statement by creating a feature wall in your living space. Paint works well in bold blocks of colour in stripes or geometric shapes, but if you prefer busy but beautiful, opt for wallpaper in botanical or ditsy print orals. Just make sure the rest of your furniture is pared back in clean modern shapes, such as this from Woodchip and Magnolia (bottom right).
