Feel lyikoeu

-

While their appearance might not be top of the list of worries for someone undergoing treatment for cancer, many women say that the sideeffects of treatment can in turn affect the way they feel about themselves. With this in mind, Boots have specially trained cancer beauty advisors on hand to give free face-to face advice and tips on everything from how to recreate brows to how to care for your skin and hair during and after treatment. Here Jessica Moloney, Boots cancer beauty advisor, shares some ways to help women look and feel more like themselves again.

Protect your skin

Prevention is the best cure when managing skin during cancer. “Rashes can o en occur during treatment and if they appear, you should consult your doctor,” advises Jessica. “Dry and itchy skin is a common side-e ect and can be treated by regular moisturising.” Try to moisturise at least twice a day, shower in warm, not hot, water and use so sponges when washing rather an anything abrasive. e new Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel, €6.95, is made up of 87% nourishing oils which lock in moisture, 10% humectants which draw in water and only 3% water as opposed to other dry skin creams, which can be made up mostly of water, which evaporates easily.

Define your eyes

Hair loss from cancer treatment can be one of the most emotionally and physically challenging experiences and o en the hardest side-e ect to cope with. “Eyelashes and eyebrows can be disguised with make-up. A sculpting pencil with an angled tip is perfect for creating and de ning brows, while liquid liner allows you to create a smooth line and give the illusion of a full lash line.” Borderlines Eyeliner Pen, €9, from Blank Canvas Cosmetics, is long-wearing and waterproof and thanks to its tapered tip, you can create a thin line along the lash line.

Refresh your complexion

Cancer treatment can cause pigmentation to change, lightening or darkening skin tone. “Using something like No7 Calm Skin Redness Relief Balm, €25, alone or under make-up can calm redness instantly,” says Jessica, who explains that less is more when it comes to make-up when undergoing treatment as skin can become sensitive. “ e No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream, €18.50, evens and enhances skin tone while disguising imperfections and has the added power of an SPF. For under the eyes, the No7 Hydraluminous Dark Circle Concealer, €18, brightens and hydrates to create a natural nish and minimises dark circles.”
