A hint of tint

-

There is no nicer feeling than being on holidays and not having to worry about filling in brows or putting on mascara – especially if you plan on taking a dip in the pool. This summer, until August 31, The Salon at The Shelbourne has a great offer to get your peepers prepped in the luxurious Georgian surrounds of the beauty parlour. The Summer Ready Eyes Package (€40) includes a lash tint, as well as a brow shaping and tint. Sade Ekwe, beauty therapist at The Salon says, “Tinting is great as it colours those tiny blonde lashes, blonde tips and darkens the lower ones, so it can really frames the eyes. The lash tint should last about four weeks, while the brow tint will usually last two weeks. This is because lashes only get exposed to eye make-up remover while we are cleansing all the time, and in general people now use products with more active ingredients in them, such as glycolic acid and hydroxyl acids which tend to remove colour quickly. Then on holidays we also do a lot of swimming, or visit the steam room or hot yoga.”

Sade explains that your lashes are going to have a natural growth cycle, and you lose approximately 10 lashes per week on each eye but you can minimise unnecessary lash fall by not treating them too harshly, and allowing you to get a little longer out of your treatment. “When taking off eye makeup, don’t use a wipe, but an oil-free eye make-up remover and a cotton pad. Leave it on for a minute to let it break down the make-up and then gently massage it off.” She explains that if you want your tint to last stay away from bi-phase oil and water formulas. “It’s the same if you’re wearing lash extensions, as oil will dissolve the bond.” When massaging, try not to rub excessively as the skin around the eye is thin and naturally more sensitive.

Sade is also a fan of lash growth serums, but advises that you need to use them continuously to keep the benefits. “Be careful which one you choose as some formulas can add pigmentation across the lashline. “I love Lilash Purified Eyelash Serum (€80, lilash.com) and iGlow Long Lashes Serum (€59 iglow.me) both of which I have used myself. To top up brows, my favourite product is Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow (€22, Arnotts) which is a matte smudge-proof and waterproof pomade that can be applied and built up with an angled brow brush.”
