The art of making a design statement in your home isn’t always a case of shouting loudest

-

Dark colours, feature walls, novel paint nishes, unusual or oversized pieces of furniture, tend to be top of the list when it comes to making home décor stand out. For leading interior design house Neptune, however, statements don’t always need to be loud; instead they can be softly spoken and barely there. Take ink, Neptune’s new borderline-black shade of navy. Competent and compelling, this is a shade that is going to make an impact whether you use it on a single wall, a key piece of painted furniture or if you envelop a whole room. It is a shade that doesn’t have to be full on to make an impression. Used in a small way, such as painting the legs of a dining table or the inside of an alcove, it becomes a personal statement of intent and adventure.

It is worth remembering that a room can have multiple statement pieces that don’t all need to be noticed at the same time. Just because there is a hierarchy that doesn’t make the more muted touches less worthy. Look out for things such as cushions that are designed to work tonally together while being texturally poles apart. The point about making statements in your home is that they are at their boldest and most beautiful when they are personal to you. Maybe there is an accessory that provides a totally di erent shape or character to your room’s design? These are pieces that don’t call out to be noticed, but when they are seen, intrigue sets in, and a subtle but undeniably strong statement is made. So be bold, embrace what appeals to you and remember, shouting the loudest is not the only way to make yourself heard.
