A rash of disasters
Daniel is distraught when he nds baby Bertie barely conscious in his cot, and when the paramedics nd a rash on Bertie’s back, Daniel is overcome with guilt about not having spotted it. When a diagnosis of measles is con rmed, Daniel confesses to Peter and Beth that he didn’t complete Bertie’s course of vaccinations. A furious Beth then lets rip at him in the Rovers, before Bethany steps in to defend the emotionally-shattered dad. However, with the next 24 hours critical to Bertie’s health and potential recovery, Daniel remains in a state of torment and rages at his family to leave him alone. When Bethany nds him at the stricken infant’s bedside, he is momentarily consoled, before breaking down again, unable to cope with his guilt.
There’s more measles-related tragedy in Weather eld this week when Maria is rushed to hospital with dizzy spells and bleeding, where the sonographer con rms her worst fears – she’s lost her baby. Upon learning of her symptoms, Ali realises she has measles, and the doctor explains that this is the most likely cause of her miscarriage. Ali tries to comfort Maria, who reveals that she lost a baby 11 years ago and cannot face the prospect of going through it all again. When Gary returns from Bristol, she gives him the devastating news and blames herself for what happened.
Geo is furious when Yasmeen makes a quip at his expense and forces her to drink a whole bottle of wine. When Peter shows up, Geo claims Yasmeen is hitting the bottle again.
