Daniel is distraught when he nds baby Bertie barely conscious in his cot, and when the paramedics nd a rash on Bertie’s back, Daniel is overcome with guilt about not having spotted it. When a diagnosis of measles is con rmed, Daniel confesses to Peter and Beth that he didn’t complete Bertie’s course of vaccinatio­ns. A furious Beth then lets rip at him in the Rovers, before Bethany steps in to defend the emotionall­y-shattered dad. However, with the next 24 hours critical to Bertie’s health and potential recovery, Daniel remains in a state of torment and rages at his family to leave him alone. When Bethany nds him at the stricken infant’s bedside, he is momentaril­y consoled, before breaking down again, unable to cope with his guilt.

There’s more measles-related tragedy in Weather eld this week when Maria is rushed to hospital with dizzy spells and bleeding, where the sonographe­r con rms her worst fears – she’s lost her baby. Upon learning of her symptoms, Ali realises she has measles, and the doctor explains that this is the most likely cause of her miscarriag­e. Ali tries to comfort Maria, who reveals that she lost a baby 11 years ago and cannot face the prospect of going through it all again. When Gary returns from Bristol, she gives him the devastatin­g news and blames herself for what happened.

Geo is furious when Yasmeen makes a quip at his expense and forces her to drink a whole bottle of wine. When Peter shows up, Geo claims Yasmeen is hitting the bottle again.
