Emmerdale has commenced a “phased return to filming” by recording six new episodes featuring characters during lockdown. The show is working with a smaller crew to make sure health and safety and social distancing measures are adhered to. Hopefully, by the time these episodes are finished it might be safe to return to filming in a more regular way. And good news for fans of Fair

City. Plans are at an advanced stage to begin filming again. Of course, it will be taking into account all the necessary precautions, but viewers who have been missing the folk in Carrigstown will be delighted to find out what is happening. Among the stories continuing where they left off is the ongoing conflict between Ger and Sharon. We will also find out what’s been happening with regard to Sash’s baby, Olivia, and her christening. And Carol and Liam had just begun to bond, with a suspicion that there might be a romance bubbling under. Won’t be long now before we can catch up! And just as some soaps are returning, Ros na Rún is bowing out for the summer, as it normally does at this time of year. The last episode until the autumn will air on June 11 and is sure to provide a cliffhanger.

Neighbours was the first to restart filming since restrictions made it impossible to carry on with the usual production. Viewers will barely notice a gap in the storyline as the residents of Ramsay Street continue the drama.

While Coronation Street is continuing to air three half-hour episodes a week, which were filmed before lockdown, there are no certain dates yet for filming to recommence. However, interesting news for the many fans of life on the cobbles comes from the production team, who are planning to film scenes of the older cast members, including Rita, Ken, Norris and Audrey, from their homes during lockdown. These scenes will be fictional stories but it is considered too risky to return to the Manchester set just yet. And from Coronation Street comes news that Sam Aston, who plays the seemingly forever young Chesney Brown, is to become a father later this year. Sam (left) has been in the soap since he was 10 years old, and now at 23, he will be getting plenty of practice for the real thing as his character has five children!
