The Insider Sky’s new Victorian sci-fi drama, going back to Barrytown, and the FA Cup Final

This eagerly-awaited new series, beautifull­y shot by DP Seamus Mcgarvey, features a starry cast headed by two of our nest acting talents, Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly (see interview, page 8). e story opens in August, 1896. Victorian London is rocked to its foundation­s by a supernatur­al event which gives certain people – mostly women – supernatur­al abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. ose that are ‘touched’ now nd themselves ostracised by polite society and in danger of being victimised.

It falls to mysterious, quick- sted widow Amalia (Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance (Skelly) to protect and shelter these gi ed orphans. To do so, they will have to stand up to the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind

In this week’s opening episode, police inspector Frank Mundi (Ben Chaplin) investigat­es a string of murders at the hands of a reportedly touched and dangerous serial killer named Maladie (Amy Manson). Clearly, a can of worms has been opened.
