Calling all budding filmmakers!

Entry for Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2024 is open, with the deadline for submission­s on Friday, January19, 2024, as part of the Fresh Internatio­nal Film Festival 2024.

The awards are open to all young lm-makers, between 7-18 years of age. They aim to encourage young people from Ireland and overseas to create, exhibit and share lms. Comedy, horror, drama, documentar­y, experiment­al, music video, animation: all are welcome.

For almost three decades, Ireland’s Fresh Internatio­nal Film Festival has nurtured, mentored and given a platform to many of the island’s most exciting new lm-making talent, bolstering Ireland’s emerging lm, television and digital creative sector.

Dublin student Max Hendrickso­n (17) was named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2023. His short animated lm, The Tell-tale Heart is a re-telling of Edgar Allan Poe’s famous short story. Speaking about the Award, Max said: “I have been submitting to the Fresh Internatio­nal Film Festival since I was 12, and it has consistent­ly provided the inspiratio­n and motivation for me to keep making movies. It has been absolutely amazing to attend every year and meet other young lm-makers, and I urge all aspiring lmmakers to submit their work to Fresh.”

The 28th annual Fresh Internatio­nal Film Festival will take place in April, showcasing hundreds of short lms from Ireland’s future screen talent.

Festival highlight, Young Filmmaker of the Year Award has three categories: Junior (7-12 years), Senior (13-18 years) and Internatio­nal (7-18 years). The awards include a prize fund, lmmaking equipment amd mentoring sessions with creative profession­als.
