Is Tommy a charmer or a smarmer?

-

Former footballer Tommy Orpington is used to adoration, but nobody could have foreseen how big a splash he’d make in Weather eld. Although no longer scoring goals in front of his team’s supporters, he may be about to score in a di erent way…

Kevin, Tim and Kirk are all starstruck and hope he will regale them with tales of his sporting career over a pint at the Rovers. Steve, meanwhile, is tempted to stick around so he can hang out with his hero, but decides he ought to spend time with Emma after she invites him to France for a week.

And while the cat’s away, Tracy thinks it could be time for her to play… Although she’s unimpressed by Tommy’s tardy timekeeping, he turns on the charm by telling her how good she looks. Toyah also takes a shine to him, remarking how sexy he looks in his overalls. Mary thinks Tracy should turn matchmaker – but rather than pushing Tommy toward Toyah, she tries to put her o by claiming he’s a womaniser. Does she really have Toyah’s best interests at heart, or has she got designs on him herself?

Meanwhile, over at No 3, Craig arrives to take Ed in for questioning about the re at the yard. Ed admits he knocked over some white spirit, but claims he didn’t start the blaze deliberately. Michael thinks otherwise – he’s convinced his desperate dad did it so he could claim the insurance money. However, he’s forced to eat his words when the police con rm an electric heater was to blame – perhaps that will lead to a cooling of the tension between father and son.

Since losing his job at the factory, Simon has lacked direction – waking up with a hangover and Nick’s beer-sodden paperwork beside him proves he needs something to focus his mind. He quickly hides the evidence of his latest binge and covers his back by o ering to print out new copies. Leanne then tries to persuade Carla to take him back, but she’s already given Simon’s job to Bobby, who continues to lead him astray.

Elsewhere, Moses tells Todd he’s moving to London to look for work, Damon hopes Sarah will take his hints about moving in, and Bethany pretends her career is going well, preferring not to tell her mum or Daniel the truth – that she’s out of work and struggling to make ends meet.
