Presented by sound librarian Sheelagh dempsey and compiled by archivist robert Canning, Children at the Microphone puts paid to the notion that children should be seen and not heard. Sheelagh explores RTÉ radio’s extensive sound archives for children’s voices from the early days on 2rn right up to the present day on rtéjr. There are pieces from broadcaster Máiréad Ní ghráda, radio 2 Poparama presenter ian dempsey and Abie Philbin Bowman, the host of CAKE on rtéjr. Listen out for the voices of children who became pretty well-known adults, from shows like Paddy Crosbie’s School Around the Corner and the award winning Children Talking from RTÉ radio Cork.
