Ringing in 2019 in Dublin
Now in its seventh year, New Year’s Festival Dublin have three big events to ring in 2019 in the heart of the capital
Family and friends are being encouraged to gather at the iconic Custom House for Dublin’s three countdown events: Liffey Lights Midnight Moment Matinee, the 3Countdown Concert and the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment. The Liffey Lights Midnight Moment Matinee is designed so little ones can enjoy the excitement of a New Year’s countdown, without having to stay up way past their bedtimes ’til midnight. It also means families with young children can be safely at home before the actual stroke of midnight later on. This is a free spectacle, but tickets to enter the display space must be booked in advance at nyfdublin.com.
So what is the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment matinee? The organisers are promising a dazzling lighting spectacle performed against the backdrop of the Custom House, and features a thrilling choreography of lasers and aqua beams. Live DJS and drummers will perform in symphony with the hundreds of lasers and lights illuminating the night sky over Dublin. For the Liffey Lights Matinee, things kick off at 6pm with a countdown to ‘midnight’ at 7pm. Later, the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment kicks off at 11.30pm with excitement building to a crescendo as the clock strikes midnight.
The third element of the Dublin Countdown is the 3Countdown Concert at Custom House. This over-18s event kicks off at 8.00pm, with platinumselling artist Gavin James headlining (see interview with Gavin on page
34), with special guests Hudson Taylor, Wild Youth and Inhaler. Tickets for the concert cost €29.90 including booking fee and this includes entry to the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment event at 11.30pm. ticketmaster.ie.
