There had been 12 Time Lords since rst aired on the BBC in 1963. It was revealed last Christmas that Time Lord #13 would be a woman and when Jodie Whittaker arrived in October, with sonic screwdriver in hand, her debut was watched by 10.9 million viewers. It marked the highest season launch for the cult series in 12 years.
