Loveless (Dir: Andrey Zvyagintsev)

This is the story of a young Moscow couple whose marriage has dissolved into a bitter and rancorous series of confrontations, one of which is witnessed by their traumatised 12-year-old son. When he goes missing the following day, the police, the parents and a volunteer group of people-finders all get on the case. Beautifully shot by Mikhail Krichman with echoes of Haneke and Béla Tarr, Loveless is a modern drama to savour.
