1 See the big five

South Africa has some of the best game reserves in the world where you can see some of Africa’s most iconic creatures. You can self-drive or go with an experienced guide and get ready to tick off a lion, leopard, rhinoceros elephant and Cape buffalo.

2 Majestic Table Mountain

Every year, millions of people take the cable car to the top of South Africa’s most famous landmark, to enjoy the amazing view from the summit over Cape Town and the ocean beyond.

3 The lively Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

Where the historical harbour meets modern leisure, this is Cape Town’s premier shopping destination, with street performers and musicians in the bustling market areas. Foodies will be in their element, with boats bringing in fresh seafood for the area’s many restaurants.

4 Robben Island

Nelson Mandela spent 18 years imprisoned here and a visitor a visit to Robben Island is a poignant experience. The prison closed in 1996 and the island is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

5 Drive the Garden Route

Stretching 300km along the south coast from Mossel Bay to Port Elizabeth through green landscapes with the second mildest climate on Earth, the Garden Route attracts visitors to its lakes, lagoons and mountains, as well as activities like hiking, winery visits and whale watching.
