The Ipcress File (1965) 2.20pm BBC Two

This is Michael Caine’s first outing as Len Deighton’s famous spy, Harry Palmer. The plot is the usual Cold War hokum about kidnapped scientists and double agents, but it’s all very cool. Caine is an instant icon and John Barry’s score is a treat.
