One of James Stewart’s favourite screen roles was that of Elwood P Dowd, a friendly middle-aged eccentric who spends much of his time drinking at the local bar, where he often introduces his friend Harvey to newcomers. Fair enough, but Harvey is an invisible six-foot rabbit.
