Christmas jumper days raise €8,000

-

SCHOOLS, businesses and individuals across Sligo have been donning Christmas jumpers in aid of a worthy cause this month.

Christmas Jumper Days have been organised in aid of Sligo Social Services, with participants donating €5 each.

The event has seen an immense response, with more than €8,000 raised to date. Ransboro National School, Riverside Hotel, Sligo Grammar School, Summerhill College, St John's National School, Ursuline College, Appian Task and Youth Action Project Sligo-Leitrim are among those to have taken part, some of them pictured here both in their festive gear on the day and presenting donations to Sligo Social Services in others. Meanwhile Hannah Foley, also pictured, raised money for Sligo Social Services with a Christmas Day swim in baltic conditions at Mullaghmore Harbour. Hannah's fundraising efforts for this swim raised €1,012 for Sligo Social Services. Ahead of the swim, Hannah said: “Sligo Social Services raise most of their much needed funds through local fundraisers. Without these fundraisers throughout the year, smaller charities might be struggling to raise even a quarter of what they would in a normal year.”
