Council to do feasibility study on removing bend in Tubbercurry
A CALL for Sligo County Council to remove a bend on the Mountain Road in Tubbercurry was made at a Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District meeting.
The call was made by local councillor Martin Connolly, who sought the removal of the bend at the ESB sub-station to increase visibility for walkers and vehicles using the road. Cllr Connolly said: “Anybody using this road will be aware of the bend and there have been a few close calls there is recent times.” He also said that the property owners who would be impacted had no problem in providing land for the work.
He was told by acting chief executive Tom Kilfeather that, unfortunately, there was no funding available at present to permit the purchase of the required lands and undertaking the widening of this section of road. But he said that the council would undertake a feasibility study of the works required with the hope of lodging an application for a low cost accident scheme in late 2021.
