Tributes after sad death of Brendan

TRIBUTES have been paid to the late Brendan Lavin who passed away recently.

Brendan, from Knockbeg, Collooney, died peacefully at the Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, on December 26.

He was a well-known member of the community in Collooney where he spent most of his life.

Brendan is also well-remembered for being part of the Collooney Harps side which won the Sligo Minor Football Championsh­ip in 1963.

In a post on Facebook, Owenmore Gaels GAA Club said: “It is with sadness that the Owenmore Gaels community has learned of the death of Brendan Lavin, Knockbeg, Collooney and formerly of Ranaghan, Ballinacar­row.

“Brendan was a member of the 1963 Minor county champions team.

“Sympathy is extended to his sons, Peter and Brendan and their mother Eileen, his brothers Austin, Dessie, Kevin and Aidan and sisters Angela and Amy and extended family members. Rest in peace, Brendan.” Tributes were also paid to his family online by Shamrock Gaels GAA Club and the Ballinacar­row Developmen­t Committee.

Brendan’s funeral was held on Tuesday, December 29.
