CLOONACOOL

CLOTHES COLLECTION: The Cloonacool GAA Club together with the Community Park Committee are currently organising a clothes collection as a much-need fundraiser for both organisations. Note that this is a clothes collection and should not be seen as an opportunity to dump additional unwanted household items. Clothes, packed in black plastic bags, can be left in the sheltered area at the front of the dressing room building at the Community Park. The collection is open until January 13.

LITTER PICK: Well done to Cloonacool GAA Club for organising a recent litter pick on the roads in the vicinity of the Community Park. Best of luck to the local men’s team as they begin to prepare for the new season.

LEVEL 5: The reintroduction of level five restrictions in an effort to halt the spread of Covid-19 will keep many people close to home in the coming weeks. The walking circuit at the Community Park is ideally situated to provide socially distanced walking for many people in the parish. The circuit is a real gift at this time. It has become the place in the community where people get to meet and have a brief chat – much like the opportunity once provided by the Community Café.

PARK LOTTO: The Community Park Committee are always happy to take new monthly or yearly subscriptions for their monthly lotto fundraiser. The growing jackpot is a great attraction and in addition to that, various prizes, including a SuperValu shopping voucher, are on offer. Contact Martin McIntyre if you would like to get involved. VILLAGE ENHANCEMENT: Despite restrictions and winter weather, work on the village enhancement taking place in Cloonacool village continues. Both side of the road will be incorporated in the project that will create a small park in the village itself. The old mill wheel, kindly donated in recent times by John Doyle, will form a centre piece within the development. A 6km road walk via the Stirabout bridge and Kilcummin graveyard is another aspect of the project. This quiet route should prove popular with the arrival of spring. Signage along the route will inform local walkers and visitors of points of interest along the way.

CALENDAR THANKS: Special thanks to all who managed to get their hands on the 2021 Sheep festival calendar in the run-up to Christmas.
