Belle’s hair cut is a boost for Eagles Flying

-

A YOUNG Meath girl’s decision to get her long hair cut is helping the Eagles Flying centre in Ballymote.

Grace Mulligan from Enfield told the Sligo Weekender how her 10-year-old Belle got her to cut “her beautiful hair” and is donating the eight inches of hair to the Little Princesses chairty, who will use to make a wig for a child with hair loss. Apart from that, Grace, who is a professional fundraiser, suggested that to Belle that she might also use her hair cut to benefit another charity and asked her what charity she would go for.

“Straight away she said, Eagles Flying, so I set up the GoFundMe page, and we thought we might raise €100.” As of yesterday, the total was €375. So why does a girl from Meath decide she wants to help a sanctuary for birds of prey in County Sligo? Grace said that since Belle could talk, she has been a huge supporter and believer in conservation and allowing animals be free to live and thrive in the wild where possible. She said: “Around four years ago we were on holidays in Sligo and came across a sign for Eagles Flying. “When we went there Belle immediately fell in love with the place, we all did really. Belle just loved what they do and what they stand for.”

Since then it has been one of her favourite places and Belle has been back every year, except last year. Grace said: “We go to the Caves of Keash and we go to Eagles Flying.” Although Grace is from Dublin, she has an aunt and uncle, Patricia and Gerry McEvoy, in Sligo town and her husband John Paul’s parents are from Roscommon, so she said “we have always tended to head west for holidays”.
