‘Super yard of cattle’ at Ballymote special sale
THERE was what was described as “a super yard of cattle” on offer at Thursday’s Special Breeding and Feeding Heifer Sale, with mainly Continental types 450kg plus.
There were a number of new customers from the Border counties along with Northern customers and the usual agents for midlands and western counties as well as local farmers, all doing battle for the quality on offer. Bullocks were making from €750 to €840 over, eg BAx 580kg €1,420, LMx 535kg €1,350, AAx 515kg €1,270.
Sucklers making from €1,100 to €2,120 per unit, eg April 15 LMx Cow and June 20 LMx Bull at foot €2,120.
Weanling bulls making from €400 to €600 over, eg CHx 320kg €920, CHx 275kg €840, CHx 340kg €870. Weanling heifers making from €325 to €600 over, eg LMx 290kg €890, BBx 285kg €790, LMx 235kg €660.
Store heifers under 400kg making from €400 to €700 over, eg LMx 380kg €1,080, LMx 360kg €1,020, CHx 390kg €990.
Lots 400 to 500kg making from €450 to €1,180 over, eg LMx 400kg €1,580 or 3.95 per kg, LMx 480kg €1,450, BBx 490kg €1,420.
Lots 500 to 600kg making from €550 to €2,610 over, eg LMx 540kg €3,150 or 5.83 per kg, LMx 590kg €2,600 or 4.41 per kg, BBx 580kg €2,400 or 4.14 per kg, CHx 555kg €1,900, with heavier lots making up to €1,220 over, eg LMx 600kg €1,820 or 3.03 per kg, SAx 690kg €1,700, LMx 615kg €1,650. Today, Thursday, February 25, there is a Special Dry Cow Sale in conjunction with usual lots. Thursday, March 4, is a Special Weanling Sale (bulls and heifers). Also special sale of continental bullocks.
On Thursday, March 11, there is a show and sale of Angus bullocks and heifers in conjunction with usual lots.
There was an excellent trade at the weekly Sheep Sale on Tuesday last week with strong demand for all types.
