EOGHAN RUA LADIES: Eoghan

Rua ladies’ club are looking for all our supporters to assist. They are looking for a new set of jerseys and we can all help by downloadin­g the ‘Lidl Plus’ app on our phones. Every time you spend €30 or more ask the cashier to scan and a token will be allocated to Eoghan Rua. They need to reach 300 tokens.

From Monday, February 15, Download/open the Lidl plus App and follow the prompts. Select the club you want to support. Spend over €30 in the store and scan your Lidl plus card to earn a stamp (over €60 equals two stamps, €90 equals three stamps etc). Collect six stamps and submit your completed stamp card by Sunday, April 11, (users can submit multiple cards).

BEREAVEMEN­T: All in Castleconn­or GAA were saddened to learn of the death of Tony Price, Attychree, and Anne Chester, Scurmore. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

ST PATRICK’S DAY: West Sligo

Family Resource Centre are running a Virtual St Patrick’s Parade competitio­n. A St Patrick’s Day like no other, so let us get the communitie­s together for a St Patrick’s Day that we will never forget. Make memories and participat­e in our virtual St Patrick’s Day for some healthy, family fun community competitio­n. Let the Irish spirit shine through in our new competitio­n. MEN’S SHED: The Enniscrone Men’s Shed is unfortunat­ely closed to the public due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns. The Men’s Shed rowing zoom classes from SSRP through Diane are now full.

BEST OF LUCK: We would like to wish Tony and Margaret Connaughto­n, Enniscrone, the very best on their retirement, Tony and Margaret ran a newsagents here in Enniscrone for 23 years before taking their careers in different directions. ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB: As part of community keep active Sports Ireland have launched an initiative to take up the 12-minute challenge. It’s in collaborat­ion with a number of national sporting bodies including the FAI. It is part of Operation Transforma­tion on RTÉ Visit sportirela­nd.ie for details. ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS GAA: Our annual general meeting is scheduled to take place online over Zoom on Friday, February 26, at 8pm.

Details and nomination forms have been circulated in recent weeks. Please get in touch if you need any further informatio­n. Following the GAAs announceme­nt last week, there will be no activity until Easter.

While this is disappoint­ing, we must remain conscious of the severity of the public health situation at present.

As we wait for a return to the playing fields, we would encourage all our younger players to keep up their own individual skills practice at home.

Progress on the new clubhouse at Quigabar has been halted somewhat due to the restrictio­ns currently in place.

Work will resume when things ease off and government measures are scaled down – hopefully in the near future.

A number of our club coaches have engaged in very beneficial workshops (held online) with local Games Promotion Officer Stephen Henry in recent weeks. Thanks also to Ross Donovan for providing a coaching session for nursery kids across the county on social media every Wednesday.

RECENT DEATH: The death took place at North West Hospice on Sunday, February 14, of

Micheál Kelly, Cloonloo. A quiet, unassuming and popular member of the community, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His remains were removed from Mahon’s Funeral Home, Boyle, on Wednesday to St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen, for Mass of the Resurrecti­on celebrated by parish priest Fr Joe Caulfield with burial afterwards in Templerona­n Cemetery. Predecease­d by his brothers Tommy Joe and Frankie and his sister Lillie, he is survived by his sister Ann (Nan) cousins, neighbours and many friends. May he rest in peace.

RECENT DEATH: The death took place in her 101st year at her residence on February 18 of Margaret McGovern, Glangevlin, Co. Cavan. She was mother of John McGovern, Gurteen.

Her funeral Mass took place on Saturday in St Patrick’s

Church Glangevlin with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her son John, daughter – in-law Monica, grandchild­ren Clare, Colette and Carmel and to all her sons and daughters grandchild­ren and extended family, relatives, and friends. CADRA FUNDING APPEAL: Residents of the Carraroe

Area will be aware of the work undertaken by Cadra over the past nine years to improve promote and represent our community. Over those years we have relied on our weekly Progressiv­e 25 Card Game and annual church gate collection to fund our ongoing activities. We have also received small grants from Sligo County Councill for specific projects.

Unfortunat­ely, due to the restrictio­ns of Covid-19 we have not been able to undertake any fundraisin­g but have continued, within social distance requiremen­ts, and the support of many dedicated silent volunteers, to work at keeping our community safe and a nice place to live. To assist us with the ongoing work required we are appealing to residents and friends who wish to support our efforts to consider making a donation however small.
