- By Alan Finn

THE Hawk’s Well Theatre has announced that the streamed series ‘Sligo Through Words and Music’ will be available again this month.

The full length show will be broadcast from 8pm from tomorrow, Friday, April 16, until Friday, April 23, via their website.

A series of performances are curated by a vast array of local talents which celebrates Sligo’s natural beauty and the work it has inspired over many years. Theatre artists Bob Kelly, Niamh McGrath and Miriam Needham, musicians Kieran Quinn, Eddie Lee, The Curlybobs, Steve Wickham & No Crows, Seamie O’Dowd and Amy O’Hara, along with writers Wasekera Sekerani, Jessamine O’Connor, Louise

Kennedy and Eithne Hand are among the guests guiding viewers through the experience. The love and deep connection the artists have for Sligo is evident in their wonderful performances.

On his adopted home musician Steve Wickham said: “I moved here 30 years ago from inner city Dublin. We live about five miles outside of town, up in the hills.

“Our neighbours are wonderful and are family at this stage. I’m a nature boy at heart and love the hills and lakes, rivers, streams and rainbows.”

Fellow musician Amy O’Hara said: “Having travelled extensively I am lucky to find a place on this earth that I can call home and not really feel the need to go anywhere else. “Whenever the weather or other things are driving me mad and I think of where else to go and live it always comes back to ‘where would I get everything that I have here?’ “Sligo is the end of the line, but what a rich little pot of gold is to be found by those that make it here.

“Music, theatre, literature, the Atlantic Ocean, vast open beaches, ancient woodlands, majestic bog mountains, space, peace, rivers, lakes, tombs, history, folklore, amazing people and the greatest friends,” she enthused.

‘Sligo Through Words and Music’ is the perfect way to discover artists from the north west, and to fall in love with Sligo all over again.

Tickets for this event are free with a €1 booking charge. Tickets are available now from hawkswell.com.
