Hurlers are fundraisers
HURLING: Sligo hurling’s virtual fundraiser generated approximately €13,500. Last month’s initiative, organised by Friends of Sligo Hurling, raised cash to further the development of hurling in the county.
Part of the funds gathered by members of the Sligo Senior hurling squad will go towards the building of a hurling wall at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence, Scarden. There will also be donations made to two local charities, North West STOP (a suicide prevention charity) and Sligo Cancer Support Centre.
Those involved in the fundraiser, called ‘Sligo2Sligo Challenge’, clocked up a collective 5,000 miles – the distance from the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence at Scarden to New York’s Gaelic Park where Sligo GAA Club play.
“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who supported the Senior hurlers in the Sligo2Sligo Challenge, it was a great success,” said Sean Reynolds, chairperson of Sligo GAA Hurling Board.
