SLIGO Ladies Footballers begin their 2021 Lidl Ladies National Football League with an away fixture against Down on Sunday, May 23.
The Anthony Brennan-managed team are also away for their second Division 3A game – they head to Fermanagh for a fixture scheduled for Sunday, May 30.
The third round of the shortened campaign is their first home contest – the hosting of Connacht rivals Roscommon on Sunday, June 6 (which is a Bank Holiday weekend). The venue for this game has yet to be confirmed.
If Sligo finish either first or second in the fourteam group they will progress to the Division Three semi-finals that are pencilled in for June 12/June 13. The NFL finals are down for the weekend of June 26-27.
But if their season has already turned sour and they finish bottom of the Division 3A standings, they’ll be into the relegation play-offs against the worst team from Division 3B (these games also take place on the weekend of June 12-13).
There will be one county relegated from Division One, Division Two and Division Three. In terms of promotion, the winners of Division Two, Division Three and Division Four will go up a level for 2022.
Division 3B, the other half of the Ladies National Football League third tier, has the following four counties: Kildare, Laois, Longford and Wicklow.
Last season’s NFL was cut short due to lockdown, with two rounds left unplayed, and Sligo had lost all five of their Division Three fixtures before the plug was pulled on the campaign due to Covid-19.
