Grange health centre ready in year’s time
CONSTRUCTION work has started on the new primary care health centre in Grange and it’s hoped the work will be finished this time next year. In addition to the GP service, other services available in the new centre will include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, public health nursing, speech and language services and mental health services.
It will also have an ambulance outreach base. This is to allow for the deployment of ambulances at Grange in order to provide a more rapid response times around the region.
It is further envisaged that there will be additional visiting services using bookable multipurpose rooms which will be allocated closer to the opening of the centre.
John Hayes, chief officer for this community healthcare area, recently told local Cllr Marie Cassrly that the centre is due to be completed and operational in the second quarter of next year.
Cllr Casserly said: “It will be a fantastic addition to Grange and surrounding areas and the services are very welcome.”
The site is in a prominent location on the edge of the village, on the main road coming in from Sligo, beside the local pharmacy. According to Wejchert architects, who designed the building “the sculptural roof form will distinguish the building from the neighbouring buildings creating a landmark on the approach to the village. The roof form takes its inspiration from the sculptural form of the Dartry mountains”.
They also said that the intention is “to provide a modern fit for propose primary healthcare facility that will be a significant asset in regard to the delivery of healthcare in the locality”.
“Primary healthcare facilities enable joined up localised care and reduce the need of visits to the regional hospital.”
