WORLD-CLASS FACILITY CENTRE: Minister Martin and Fáilte Ireland have announced a €19 million investment to develop state-of-theart facilities for outdoor waterbased activities, with 22 locations nationwide to benefit – including Enniscrone.

The significant increase in people enjoying outdoor water-based activities such as kayaking, surfing, paddle-boarding and open water swimming is expected to continue to grow year on year, and not just during the summer months. This means all-weather changing facilities, secure storage and bathrooms at beaches and inland water spots will be in huge demand. The funding will be used to build world-class facility centres at 22 locations across the country where water-based activities are a key visitor attraction.

Each centre will provide hot showers, changing and toilet facilities, secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown and orientation points.

They will be fully wheelchair accessible and built using sustainable materials such as solar heating panels to meet ‘Nearly Zero Energy Building Standards’.

PUBLIC TOILETS: It’s a ‘relief’ to hear we will have the public toilets opening this summer. Cllr Joe

Quennan confirmed that the toilet facilities will be open from this coming May Bank Holiday weekend for the entire summer.

Sligo County Council have also agreed to employ a cleaning company to maintain hygiene in the public toilets in order for them to remain open during Covid-19. ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB: The club has now received charitable status and is listed on the Revenue website. We would like to thank our treasurer Joan Quinn for all the hard work in getting this achieved. With membership funds, fundraising, donations and grant funding it assures transparency and accountability for KEUFC, Micheál McGowan park, its volunteers and indeed the wider community.

We’ve got some exciting plans for the return of our blotto draw with Enniscrone-Kilglass GAA in the coming weeks.

CASTLECONNOR

CASTLECONNOR CLEANS UP: Castleconnor Community groups and volunteers came together over the Easter break and organised a roadside litter pick in association with the An Taisce National Spring Clean and Sligo County Council, observing social distancing and operating within their social bubble.

The entire roadside of the parish was cleared of the remnants of dashboard dining and totalled over 70km of verge (143km both sides). Plastic bottles, coffee cups, takeaway bags, confectionery wrappers, combined across the parish verges to amount to a total of over 1.75 tonnes of litter collected. Organisers of the project would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their time and assistance and for completing the task of removing what was basically recyclable material.

Once more we would ask that you respect our countryside and remind you that rubbish has no place on Ireland’s roadsides.
