Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena pay tribute to their player Eoin

COOLANEY-Mullinabre­ena GAA Club have paid a glowing tribute to their player Eoin Mulkeen, 16, pictured, who died tragically last Saturday. In a statement issued by the club, chairperso­n Ollie Lee said: “A profound sadness is prevalent in our area and well beyond, leaving our communitie­s in a state of total numbness and struggling to comprehend the scale of this as we remain incredulou­s on hearing the news.”

“In his short but fulfilled years, Eoin epitomized the definition of the word dedication. On a sporting front, his commitment to the cause of Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena GAA over the years was nothing short of exceptiona­l.” “We can all recall with fondness his superb goal at Nace O’Dowd Park in 2020 for his U-16 team that went on to claim a championsh­ip title.”

Lee highlighte­d Eoin’s unstinting work-rate and commitment to his sport. The Achonry teenager, a student at St Attracta’s Community School, also played soccer at underage level with Coolaney United and was a rugby player with Sligo RFC.

EASKEY CASTLE RUN

The club hopes to be in a position to host the Easkey Castle Run (comprising distances of 5km and 10km) at some point over the coming months when restrictio­ns allow.

HURLERS PLAY

There is a strong contingent of Easkey hurlers on the Sligo Senior hurling panel who begin their Allianz Hurling League campaign this Saturday with a home game against Armagh. evening with his usual earnestnes­s and always with a smile.”

“His love for all sports was shared with his beloved and hugely devoted dad, Shane, as they travelled to enjoy many a big occasion together.”

The well-liked teenager was popular among his classmates according to Lee.

“Eoin was hugely talented academical­ly, yet humble, and was recognised amongst his school peers with admiration as the ‘quiz king’. He claimed another prize on Friday last before the transition year group broke up for the summer. He was a model student in every sense of the word.” Lee added: “We [Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena GAA] extend our sincere sympathy to Eoin’s heartbroke­n parents, Shane and Ann Marie, and his little sister Kate along with his extended family and friends.” “No words can even begin to represent their grief right now. We all stand united in our support for them and hope to offer them some little crutch in the depths of their mourning.”

morning coaching that takes place at Rathcormac NS.

If you have football boots, which your son or daughter has outgrown, put them in a clear plastic bag and label the bag clearly with the boots’ ‘size’. You can drop them off in the swap shop bins which will be located near the entrance to the coaching sessions. Parents/guardians can also pick up a suitable second hand pair of boots for their son or daughter – for free.

It is a simple way for local families to recycle their existing boots and to provide a helping hand for new GAA families and players who are joining the club. memorial prayer service held at Nace O’Dowd Park involving Eoin’s teammates, their parents, club coaches and officers. The prayers were offered by Fr Peter Gallagher of the Achonry-Mullinabre­ena parish.

Eoin’s funeral took place on Tuesday, with Mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Mullinabre­ena, followed by burial at Achonry Cemetery. kelloggscu­lcamps.gaa.ie.

DRAW RESULTS

The winners of the monthly members draw for February were Michelle McMorrow, Fiona Lyons and Amy Healy.

CLUB LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto draw that took place on Monday of last week. The numbers drawn were as follows: 5, 20, 23, 31. The lotto jackpot stands at €3,800. The next draw takes place this Monday, May 24.

CLUB SLIGO

Sligo GAA have relaunched Club Sligo which is a joint fundraisin­g effort between club and county. Shamrock Gaels GAA Club hope to be able to sign up around 30 supporters of Sligo GAA which, in turn, will raise €4,000 for the club – while at the same time supporting the continuing developmen­t of Sligo GAA.

CONDOLENCE­S

The club extend sympathy to the family and relatives of Brian O’Hara, Coopershil­l, and Stanley Bagnall, Behy, Riverstown, who died at the weekend. The club also sympathise with Kathleen McDermott and the McDermott family, Castlebald­win, on the passing of Kathleen Healy, Knocknahur, who died last week.
