‘Here we go again’: Council writes to owners of the Mill apartments in Ballisodare

-

SLIGO County Council has written to the owners of The Mill Apartments in Ballisodare in relation to the condition and appearance of the property.

Cllr Thomas Healy had called on this council this week to write to the owners of the apartments for an update on what they intend to do with the property and also that they address the ongoing concerns of youths entering the derelict building. “Here we go again,” the Sinn Féin representative said.

“This has been in front of us for around 12 years now. People are still getting inside, a young fella broke his ankle in there only recently and you also have slates falling off the roof. We need to pull the developers in and say enough is enough, people are fed up with it.” He went on to say that both the council and the government need to “take a stand” and said they should consider taxing owners if the building remains unused.

The motion was supported by Fine Gael councillor Thomas Walsh who said: “It’s an appalling eyesore and this has gone on for far too long. The owners have been given enough time, this cannot continue.”

Acting director of services Emer Concannon said they have contacted the owners of the apartments about the situtation. She said: “The Planning Enforcement Section of Sligo County Council have written to the owners of The Mill Apartments in relation to the appearance and condition of the property. While some works were carried out we are still not satisfied with the appearance of the building and are currently in contact with a Planning Consultant who is representing the owners.”

“We have also informed them of anti-social behaviour taking place within the building. We will continue to liaise with them to ensure the appearance of the building is improved and that it is made secure to prevent any unauthorised access.”
