Geevagh’s Dara says thank you after his recovery from accident

-

A GEEVAGH teenager who was involved in a serious accident last year is now raising funds for Sligo University Hospital and Temple Street Hospital in Dublin as a way of saying thanks to all those who cared for him after the accident and in hospital to ensure his recovery.

Fifteen-year-old Dara Mostyn, who is a talented soccer player and Gaelic footballer, was seriously injured in a bicycle accident in May 2020 but thankfully has made a full recovery.

Dara and his family say that his recovery is due in no small part to the excellent care he received from the first 999 call where dispatcher Elaine kept all at Dara’s side calm, to the paramedics on site and then to the nurses, doctors and consultants in the Emergency Dept of Sligo hospital and his comfortable trip by air ambulance to Temple Street. They say they will also be “forever indebted” for the care and attention he received in Temple Street ICU.

They say the nurses, doctors and consultants were “forever reassuring that he was making progress every day, however small, their professionalism was second to none”.

“To all those involved in his recovery in Top Flat Ward, we will always remember and forever be thankful.” As an expression of his gratitude, Dara, his family and friends embarked on a virtual cycle, run and walk from Sligo Hospital to Temple Street (a 434km round trip).

It kicked off on Friday morning last, when Dara Mostyn, Conor Mostyn and their friends cycled to his secondary school, Coola Post Primary School.

His younger siblings, Aine and Liam, also cycled to Geevagh National School with friends.

The fundraiser is continuing this week and if you wish to make a donation to Dara’s fundraising trek, you can do so at www.gofundme.com/ Dara-trek-to-temple-st/.
