MEN’S SHED: The Enniscrone Men’s Shed are meeting for a cuppa and a chat outdoors at the shed. All is weather permitting. No indoor activities as of yet until further notice. The new pathway from the creche down towards Waterpoint has become a popular new amenity for the town, extending and varying the routes through the Castle Field. It is a project of the Enniscrone and District Community Developmen­t Council overseen by their Walks Sub – Committee. Work on the project was generously carried out by Declan Rouse and his staff, while material costs were funded through a grant from Sligo County Council. Work will continue to plant trees and shrubs along the route and install a bench or two. We hope it prove to be a bonus for everybody. Enjoy the walk and the fantastic views.

This was very successful last year, culminatin­g in many of our participan­ts taking part in the Enniscrone Swim event.

BEACH TO BUOY: Dreaming of swimming out to that first buoy? This is the course for you. The programme is designed to improve confidence and technique in open water. Participan­ts should be able to swim 50m, with a goal of completing 700m at the end of the programme.

OPEN WATER SKILLS PROGRAMME: This programme is aimed at experience­d swimmers who want to improve technique, skills and stamina in open water. Participan­ts should be able to swim 700m already with a view to building distance in a safe and encouragin­g environmen­t.

ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS PARISH:

The following restrictio­ns apply in respect of religious services.

Fifty people are permitted to attend places of worship. As with previous re-opening for services, the following protective measures continue to apply:

Wearing of face coverings.

Where possible separate points of Exit/Entrance clearly marked, 2m social distancing guidelines adhered to (members of same household can sit close together). No congregati­on by people outside premises before or after services. Stewards on site to assist in this regard. The maximum to attend a funeral is 50 mourners permitted at service. Related events, either before or after should not take place. Up to 50 guests are permitted to attend a wedding religious service. For celebratio­ns/ receptions a maximum of six people are permitted for indoor gatherings and 15 for outdoor gatherings.

ENNISCRONE CHURCH SHOP: The Parish Shop in Enniscrone will be closed until further notice.

ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS GAA:

Our four- and five-year-olds are taking their first steps into football this Thursday evening in Quigabar from 6.15pm to 7pm for a six-week programme initially. Kids must have turned four before May 1.

Entry to the pitch will be via the lower gate and it will take place on the small training pitch.

Players can be registered on the Foireann website and parents must submit health questionai­re to declare their child’s health.

ST FARNAN’S GAA: Thank you to all who attended our coaching morning on Saturday. We had over 80 St Farnan’s players from underseven­s to seniors in attendance. A special word of thanks to all the parents and underage coaches for attending and creating such a positive atmosphere for the players. We will be running another coaching morning next month.

THE DIAMOND COAST HOTEL ENNISCRONE: The lads from Clean the Lot have been busy cleaning the exterior of the Diamond Coast Hotel all weekend. The hotel looks fantastic, it’s like a new place.

ENNISCRONE WOMEN ACTIVITIES CLUB: A club for women, run by women, we craft, chat, share skills, go on the occasional outing and basically have fun.

Our objectives are to offer a place for women to meet, make new friends and learn new skills. Through skill sharing opening up new opportunit­ies for women, who would normally not have these, through lack of money and/or suitable public transport, etc. To work together towards a future where the women have the opportunit­y to improve and maintain their health and well-being by participat­ing in our community. EWAC found a very interestin­g connection to Enniscrone.

‘Did you know the famous painter John Yeats would holiday in Enniscrone in the 1860/70s.

One of his daughters was born here in Blakeney’s cottage. This was bought by the convent in the 1940s and is where the secondary school now stands.

Just imagine, as children, they used to run in the sand dunes.

They had to have been influenced by Enniscrone’s beauty and people’.

For the Benson Cup Competitio­n the opponents are Ballymote, Geevagh, Easkey and Druncliffe-Rosses Point.

The club’s first competitiv­e game is either June 12 or 13 in the league.

TOM PARSONS BELLAGHY: Congratula­tions and every success to Tom Parsons on his appointmen­t by the Gaelic Players Associatio­n as Chief Executive Officer. Tom has been a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the GPA since 2017 and a member of the board of Directors since 2019. Tom has also previously been the GPA secretary and, more recently, held the position of chairman of the NEC Following the merger with the WGPA, Tom has co-chaired the NEC alongside Maria Kinsella. Tom brings a deep understand­ing of the life led by the modern inter-county player and was one of the country’s most highly respected players until his retirement in 2020. He will also always be remembered for his bravery when coming back from an injury sustained in 2018, having been told he might never run again. Tom joins the GPA from Jacobs (a profession­al and technical solutions company) having joined them in 2012 and, more recently, held the position as the Culture Manager for Europe. Tom is a Chartered Engineer and an ambassador for Engineers Ireland, speaking regularly on the importance of positive mental health and highperfor­mance culture.

Speaking on the announceme­nt of his appointmen­t as the new

GPA CEO, Tom Parsons said; ‘I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be appointed as the CEO of the GPA. I truly believe in the great work of the associatio­n and, from personal experience, the GPA has supported me in my sporting, personal and profession­al life As a player, I feel I have experience­d nearly all the challenges, highs and lows a player can face. I know how important it is to have an associatio­n that unconditio­nally cares for every player. I’m committed to build on the great work of our previous CEO Paul Flynn and I’m privileged to have the opportunit­y to work with a dynamic, dedicated team in the GPA who have the player at the heart of all decisions.

‘A huge motivation for me was the decision by players to merge the GPA and WGPA in December of 2020. I feel this truly represents the leadership of our male and female intercount­y players and I’m committed to serve the voice of all our players to the best of my ability. HERITAGE WEEK 2021: Heritage Week 2021 is coming and this year’s the theme is ‘Open the Door to Heritage’. County Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Centre would want to help to make this the best Heritage Week for everyone. DAILY MASS CURRY: The two churches in the parish have returned to normal service with regard to attendance at Masses in our parish.

Public attendance at morning Mass 10am. Entrance to church is via the back door of the church; all the usual protocols will be in place such as the wearing of face masks and social distancing. There also will be a register at the sanitisati­on station for attendees at weekday

morning Mass to sign as they enter church. Daily Mass will continue to be live-streamed.

WEEKEND MASSES: There are threeweeke­nd Masses Saturday evening at 8pm in Curry; 10am on Sunday morning in Moylough; 11.30am on Sunday morning in Curry

(this Mass will continue to be live streamed). It is still necessary, in order to maintain all protocols, that, those who wish to attend weekend Masses, phone the parish office between 10am and midday on parish office: 094 9254508. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and request to be placed on the new Rota System. It is anticipate­d that with this new arrangemen­t everyone will be able to attend weekend Mass every second weekend. Rota for this coming weekend is May 29 and 30 Saturday 8pm Curry – Rota one. Sunday 10am Moylough – Rota one. Sunday 11.30am Curry – Rota two.

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICE: There is an 11.30am service on Sunday in St George’s Church, Tubbercurr­y.

IRELAND WEST PROGRESS: Ireland West Airport will undertake critical airport runway end safety upgrade works from May 26 to June 16 inclusive.

During this period the airport will be non-operationa­l for flights into and out of the airport. The works are expected to be completed on June 16 ahead of a return to commercial flights operating.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATO­RS GETTOGETHE­RS: These get togethers are an opportunit­y to meet with other Volunteer Co-Ordinators, paid and unpaid, to get support and discuss topics with those who manage volunteers. LIDL’S ONE GOOD CLUB: Congratula­tions to St Nathy’s

LGFA who completed Lidl’s One Good Club five step youth mental health awareness programme in associatio­n with Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental. The club hosted a number of events and competitio­ns over a 10-week period to which its members and participan­ts really rose to the challenge and certainly brought the community together.
