PETMANIA SLIGO, the new pet superstore and grooming studio in Sligo town, officially opened its doors last Friday.

The Irish-owned pet-retailer has announced its expansion across three locations in the North West with 30 jobs for the region.

The new Petmania Sligo store is part of a major three-year expansion programme that saw the pet retailer launch an online store and upgrade three of its retail outlets in 2020.

Later this year Petmania will also open two more branches with grooming studios in the North West.

The new Petmania Sligo store is open seven days a week and features dog-grooming studios, weight check facilities, specialist pet food and nutritional supplies plus accessories, bedding, safety equipment and much more.

Petmania Sligo has recruited 11 new team members including store manager

Chloe McCarthy, assistant manager Liam Laffey and head dog groomer Lynn Aitken.

Store manager Chloe McCarthy worked in Petmania in Galway for five years before moving to her current Sligo job. An animal lover, she previously worked in a pet store in Donegal and has gained many animal care and nutrition qualifications. Chloe has three much-loved pets, a Jack Russell called Morgan, a cat named Tinkerbell and a Royal Python, Pepsi. Chloe loves the job and can think of nothing better than fussing over pets that come into the store.

Assistant manager Liam Laffey from Mayo did a BSc in Animal Science and supervised a pet farm in London before taking up his role in Petmania Sligo.

His particular area of expertise is in muscle and joint therapy in dogs, the subject of his dissertation. Liam is the human companion to Lucy, a red setter-labrador cross.

Head groomer Lynn Aitken has been dog grooming for 10 years. Originally from Scotland, she has also worked in Germany. Lynn is passionate about keeping dogs healthy and advising owners on the care of their pets. Lynn is qualified in pet first aid and is an enthusiastic horsewoman. Lynn has a German spitz called Muffin, and a cat Shadow that, along with her three children, keep Lynn on her toes at home.

Petmania is setting high standards in pet care, with intensive training for all its pet care advisors and an internal grooming training programme for their professional dog groomers.

Marketing manager of Petmania Emily Miller said: “We share our customers’ passion for pets and are here to help all pet-parents keep their animals safe and well with excellent advice, the best of nutritional supplies and pet-care
