Kearins is overtaken in NFL scoring charts
GAA: Sligo GAA legend Mickey Kearins has been overtaken as the GAA National Football League’s all-time top scorer.
Accoring to the Irish Examiner, taking top spot from the west Sligo ace, pictured, is Clare’s David Tubridy, whose 1-8 tally in his county’s recent loss to Cork (an Allianz Football League Division 2 South fixture) brought him to 478 points. Experienced attacker Tubridy amassed this tally, 22-412, over a 14-year period with Clare. Tubridy’s first team coach at Clare is Tourlestrane’s Gerry McGowan.
Beltra’s Kearins kicked 469 points for Sligo in the National Football League during an inter-county career that lasted for 17 years, 1961-1978. An All Star recipient in 1971, Kearins helped Sligo win the Connacht GAA Senior Football Championship in 1976.
In April he was named as the new president of Sligo GAA – this honorary role sees him take over from Tommy Kilcoyne, who left the role last December.
