Sligo will begin Inter campaign in July

- LGFA ALL-IRELAND INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

SLIGO Ladies Footballers will begin their TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Intermediate Championship on Sunday, July 11, with a fixture against Wexford. This is the first of three games that they’ll play over three consecutive weekends.

Sligo, who are in the four-team Group ‘A’, are also in action the following Sunday, July 18, when they take on Westmeath.

Their third Group ‘A’ game is on Sunday, July 25, when they take on Longford.

Sligo, who are managed by Tourlestrane’s Anthony Brennan, will qualify for the quarter-finals by either winning or finishing second in Group ‘A’.

If Sligo, who have a Lidl National Football League Division Three semi-final coming up, top their section they will take on the Group ‘B’ runners-up (either Clare, Fermanagh or Leitrim).

Finishing second in Group ‘A’ will give Sligo a last eight contest against the Group ‘D’ winners (one of Offaly, Down or Louth).

The quarter-finals take place on August 7/August 8, with the semifinals down for decision the following weekend (August 14/August 15). The All-Ireland final has a September 5 date.

Meanwhile, the Enniscrone-based Michael Moyles has guided Mayo to the semi-final of the Lidl National Football League Division One. Mayo finished second in Division 1A, with two wins from three games – their second victory was last Sunday’s emphatic 4-18 to 0-6 defeat of Westmeath in Mullingar.

The reward for Moyles, the former Sligo Minor Gaelic football team boss, is a national semi-final against All-Ireland Senior champions Dublin this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Sligo LGFA referee Gus Chapman was the match official for the aforementioned clash of Mayo and Westmeath last weekend.
