O’Grady brothers take charge of Sligo U-20 hurling team
THE O’Grady brothers from Ballina, Co. Mayo, Peter and Paul, have been appointed joint-managers of the Sligo U-20 hurling panel.
The siblings take charge for Sligo’s campaign in the GAA Hurling All-Ireland U-20 ‘B’ Championship – Sligo have a preliminary tie against Connacht neigbours Mayo on Tuesday,
July 6. A win here would put them into a quarter-final against Roscommon on July 13.
Up to a dozen members of the Sligo Senior hurling panel – a group that so far has won its two Allianz Hurling League Division 3A games – are eligible for the county’s U-20 team, including Thomas Cawley and Fionn Moylan.
Paul O’Grady is a former
Sligo Senior hurler in 2020 but his involvement was curtailed because of injury. He also starred for west Sligo outfit Western Gaels. His brother Peter, who played at underage level with Mayo (as a Gaelic footballer), is a strength and conditioning coach and also a certified MMA conditioning coach.
Sean Reynolds, chairperson of Sligo GAA’s Hurling Board, is delighted to have the O’Gradys on board. “They have great experience across both Gaelic football and hurling and are very keen for this group of talented [Sligo] players to do well in the
All-Ireland competition this year.” Reynolds added: “There is a relatively short run-in before
