Iconic Tubbercurry pub and restaurant Killoran’s for sale

- By Michael Daly

SOMETIMES described as a museum with a restaurant and bar in it, the iconic Killoran’s Traditional Restaurant and Bar in Tubbercurry is for sale at €240,000. It will be familiar to many readers as the location for some scenes of the hit series ‘Normal People’. It has a tradition for a warm welcome, wonderful food and entertainment – a wonderful place to spend time.

Killoran’s is so much more than a place to eat or have a drink as owners Tommy and Annie Killoran have displayed hundreds of antiques and curiosity items in the premises.

It has hosted some of the top names in entertainment, from Christy Moore to Big Tom. It was one of the North West’s leading singing lounge venues in the 1970s and 1980s, and was the venue for hundreds of fashion shows, dinner dances and other events.

While national politicians of all parties and none gathered there with their supporters over the years, it was also a hub for drama – the Western Drama Festival has been hosted there. The business was developed by Thomas and Annie who started off in 1958 after they got married and gradually built it up from a small pub to the business that it is with numerous extensions and additions as the popularity of Killoran’s grew.

The owners, now in their nineties, have decided as we emerge from the pandemic that it is a good time to retire. They are extended every good wish on their retirement – it is well earned!

Selling agent Roger McCarrick of REA McCarrick and Sons said it is a marvellous location and that the owners would like to see the younger generation take over the business. It is a marvellous opportunity, he said, for some young, energetic person to develop it.

Damien Costello, Conor McCarrick, John Monahan and Mark Walton.
