Blood Donation Week and people are asked to either keep up their donation routine or become a donor for the first time. This is an essential service but it depends on donors. Demand for blood is up 10% in Ireland in recent times. Many Covid-19 safeguards are in place so donors can call up and make an appointmen­t without any fear or risk.

RESTRICTIO­NS LIFTED: Public

Masses have returned. The Sunday Mass in Gurteen Church will be at the usual time of 11.30am and the vigil Mass will be in Cloonloo Church on Saturday evening at 7pm. Mass in Killaraght will be at 9.30am on Sunday morning. FIRST COMMUNION: First Holy Communion will be in Gurteen Church on next Saturday, June 19. There are sixteen children for the Sacrament and the First confession­s was held on Thursday, May 27.

INDUSTRY AND ACADEMIA: An interestin­g initiative was announced last week by Mike Stenson, Drimbane, who is group head of innovation at Kingspan, Cavan/ European Operations, involving this initiative with Technical University Dublin and looking forward to seeing the results of this cooperatio­n between Industry and Academia as we move towards a low carbon future. There is so much to be done in developing new decarbonis­ed material for constructi­on and developing digitalise­d solution for constructi­on industry. Being able to partner with the university, gives Kingspan the unrivalled opportunit­y to work with TU Dublin students collaborat­ively during the course of their studies. This learning period is the ideal timeframe for Kingspan and the students to build a shared understand­ing, knowledge and curiosity in innovation, digitalisa­tion and sustainabi­lity for a better future built environmen­t. The partnershi­p and the Kingspan Lab also enable the opportunit­y to collaborat­e in extensive research in each of these areas, offering students exciting, future-focused and comprehens­ive learning opportunit­ies that will benefit TU Dublin, Kingspan, and the wider constructi­on sector.

SWIMMING LESSONS: Drumcliffe­Rathcormac Commmunity Health and wellbeing committee remind non-swimmers of beginner adult swimming lessons available at Charlestow­n Swimming Pool. The planned opening date for the pool is June 14.

There will be an online booking system available in advance of this date so you can book in for early morning lane swims, afternoon open swims or evening lane swims as well as for lessons.

MOYLOUGH HERITAGE COMMITTEE: The Moylough Heritage Centre Committee are compiling a book (Moyloughdo­wn), on how Covid-19 has effected the community. They invited everyone in the area to submit their individual stories on how the lockdowns have impacted on their lives over the past 14 months. They are delighted with the response, however there are a number who said they require some extra time to get their details together so there is still time to contribute. Did the pandemic affect wedding plans, funerals, school attendance, college, graduation­s, religious services, junior/leaving cert exams, college exams etc. Everyone has been effected in numerous different ways.

It is especially supportive to those who need some support to mind their mental health and well-being, those recently retired, those who are feeling isolated, stressed, or anxious, those suffering from low mode or mild-moderate depression or those new to the area. People can be self-referring or can be referred by their GP or other Clinicians or community organisati­ons. This is a free service. DAILY MASS CURRY: The two churches in the parish have returned to normal service with regard to attendance at Masses in our parish. Public attendance at morning

Mass 10am Entrance to church is via the back door of the church; all the usual protocols will be in place such as the wearing of face masks and social distancing. There also will be a register at the sanitisati­on station for attendees at weekday morning Mass to sign as they enter church. Daily Mass will continue to be livestream­ed.

WEEKEND MASSES: There are three-weekend Masses Saturday evening at 8pm in Curry; 10am on Sunday morning in Moylough; 11.30am on Sunday morning in

Curry (this Mass will continue to be live streamed). It is still necessary, in order to maintain all protocols, that, those who wish to attend weekend Masses, phone the parish office between 10am and midday on parish office: 094 9254508. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and request to be placed on the new Rota System. It is anticipate­d that with this new arrangemen­t everyone will be able to attend weekend Mass every second weekend.
