‘Early Bird’ winners in Club Sligo draw

-

SURGE: Sean Carrabine runs at the Wexford defence although it looks as if referee David Hickey is in the Sligo player’s path.

the game’s opening score, Red Óg Murphy’s deft finish from an acute angle after another piece of Carrabine enterprise and Niall Murphy’s excellent finish from Cian Lally’s assist in first-half stoppage time.

None of the five points that Sligo mustered in the second-half were from play – two frees from Niall Murphy, a free and a ‘45’ from Sean Carrabine and Barry Gorman’s ‘mark’.

GAA: Paddy Watters (Owenmore Gaels GAA Club) and CooleraStrandhill GAA Club’s Rose Cawley, pictured, were the winners in the early bird draw for all new members of Sligo GAA fundraiser Club Sligo 2021 – members who were fully paid up by Monday of last week. David Cummins, Sligo GAA assistant treasurer and chairperson of the Club Sligo Task Force, said the fundraiser organisers are pleased with the membership uptake so far. “We have had a big reaction online with a lot of new members who were not previously involved with Club Sligo,” he said.

“In recent weeks that has noticeably included Sligo people overseas as we have used the power of social media to reach out to supporters abroad.”

“We have had interest from known strongholds of GAA interest like London, New York, Boston, Chicago and Sydney, but also from places such as Texas, Utah and Wisconsin.”

Cummins added: “Membership will be open for another two weeks – to the end of the month – and we will be following up through the clubs over the coming weeks because as more members join in each club, the more funds come back to the clubs concerned.”

Club Sligo 2021 offers a 50-50 split of income over a basic threshold that creates an opportunity for every club to contribute to the county cause while raising its own money.
