Walsh raises issue of parking at health centre in Collooney

-

SLIGO County Council will call on the HSE to address ongoing concerns with the lack of parking at the health centre in Collooney.

A motion was put forward by Cllr Thomas Healy at Friday’s meeting of Sligo County Council where he asked that the council contact the HSE directly as the lack of parking is causing major congestion problems not only for those at the health centre, but also for the school next door.

Cllr Healy said: “The centre covers a large population, including Ballisodare, Ballygawley, Ballintogher and Ballinacarrow and other townlands.

“It provides a busy daycare centre but there is issues with parking, or the lack of it at the centre. There is ground there to address the issue. There is only one setdown space and the cars have to park out on the main road beside the main school. “Older and vulnerable people have to park even further away. There is need for a set-down area for the bus, for extra disabled parking spaces as well as public parking. I would also hope they might look at providing an outdoor area where people can sit during a good day. The HSE needs to address this, they have the ground, they can do the work.”

The motion was supported by Cllr Arthur Gibbons who called for a survey to be carried by the HSE when the school re-opens, while Cllr Thomas Walsh said he supports the motion as the entire town of Collooney has issues with a lack of parking and needs to be addressed if the local population is to grow as expected by 25 per cent by 2030.

Cathoirleach Cllr Dara Mulvey also offered his support for the motion, agreeing with Cllr Gibbons that the HSE need to carry out a survey which needs to be done during peak hours when the new school year starts.
