Scavenger hunt in aid of Hawk’s Well renovation
Daragh and Anna Cathcart launching the scavenger hunt at Carns Wood with Miriam Needham.
YOU can enjoy some time outdoors and fun with family and friends at the Hawk’s Well Theatre’s scavenger hunt at Foxes Den, the proceeds of which will be going to the theatre’s renovation fund.
Carns Wood in Sligo is the setting for the hunt, which should take about one hour to complete. The clues will be easy enough for all the participants to find.
Teams taking part will receive a list of clues and tasks to complete and take photos of. All that’s needed is for one person on your team to have a phone that can take photos. There’s lots of scope to get creative and use your imagination too, with some prizes up for grabs, such as a family pass to Lough Key Forest Park Activity Centre, family pass to Arigna Mining Experience and €30 one-for-all voucher.
The scavenger hunt has been devised by Hawk’s Well Theatre artist in residence Miriam Needham. To join in the fun simply buy a ticket online for your team (up to six people) and the Hawk’s Well will send you all the details before the event. Your team can take part in the scavenger hunt at any time between 11am and 4pm this Saturday, July 17. Advance booking is essential. Tickets are €10 per team and available from www.hawkswell.com. As the theatre heads towards its 40th birthday in 2022, it is fundraising in a bid to raise €1.37 million to secure the theatre for future generations.
As well as their own efforts, the Hawk’s Well has secured two major capital grants, €550,000 from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and €105,000 from Sligo Leader Partnership. Each grant stipulates that the theatre is required to provide matching funding in order to access the funds. To date, €340,000 has been fundraised by the Hawk’s Well thanks to initiatives including the €1 renovation fee and the generous support from the public. €250,000 in funding has also been provided from Sligo County Council.
There is however, still much to be done to reach the final financial target, and every cent raised is vital to bring the project to completion. The theatre is encouraging friends and family to join in the scavenger hunt.
