RESULTS The results of the 18-hole champagne scramble, held on Saturday last, July 31 and sponsored by Ulster Bank, were as follows: 1, Gerard Carroll (11), Brian Cannon (19), Declan Gallagher (22), Donal Gallagher (24) 108pts; 2, Gary O’Brien (8), Stephen O’Mahoney, Matt Montague (13), Eamon O’Brien (29) 106pts; 3, Alan Gibbons (10), Bernard Gibbons (14), Dara Keogh (17), James Jordan (24) 105pts. There were 44 teams taking part.

CECIL EWING CUP The Cecil Ewing Cup, an 18-hole stroke competitio­n, took place last Sunday. The sponsor was Colin Starrett, the PGA profession­al at County Sligo Golf Club. The results were as follows: 1, Sean Creed (9) 64; 2, Brian Cannon

RESULTS The Martin Cahill Memorial Cup was held recently. The results of this 18hole three-ball rumble, a mixed competitio­n which was played during last week and up until last Sunday, were as follows: 1, Padraig McDonagh, Tommy Clarke, Tommie Grady 99pts; 2, Kathleen Cryan, Nuala O’Donnell Johnson, Karena Finn 98pts; 3, AJ Hession, Johnny Finan, Peter Gallagher 93pts.

RESULTS The results of the 9-hole competitio­n played on Monday, August 2 and sponsored by O’Connor Cabins were as follows: 1, John Nicholas (10) 16pts; 2, John Sheridan (11) 16pts; 3, Jack McIntyre (13) 15pts.

CASTLE DARGAN LADIES

JULY COMPETITIO­NS Last month saw several competitio­ns enjoyed by Castle Dargan Golf Club’s female members. The alternate day 18-hole weekend competitio­n, which was held on July 3-4, was won by Joan O’Dowd. Assumpta Kelly was the runner-up. The competitio­n sponsor was Gráinne Gilmartin Chiropodis­t. Joan Scanlon took first place in the 9-hole midweek competitio­n that took place on July 7 and July 8. Teresa Meaney finished second in a competitio­n that was sponsored by Kathleen’s Fashions. The sponsor of the alternate day 18-hole weekend competitio­n, played for on July 10-11, was Enda Lannon Pharmacy. Pauline Lennon was the competitio­n winner and the second prize went to Teresa Meaney. The top three players in the 9-hole midweek competitio­n played on July 14-15 were Joan Scanlon (first), Therese O’Rourke (second) and Eileen Candon (third). The competitio­n sponsor was K Plastics. CARRICK TRIP Members of the Ladies Branch enjoyed an afternoon at Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club on the weekend before last (July 24). The results of the competitio­n were as follows: 1, Assumpta Kelly; 2, Loretto Brennan; 3, Carmel Conlon.

OPEN DAYS Today, Thursday, is the second of two open days for female golfers at Castle Dargan. The first of these was yesterday, Wednesday. Both days are sponsored by The Cat & The Moon.

STRANDHILL

CLUB COMPETITIO­N The club is recommenci­ng its social mixed foursomes competitio­n tomorrow, Friday. This is the first social golf event since lockdown was lifted. This popular weekly competitio­n gives members the chance to catch up with their golf friends. The time sheet is block booked from 5pm to 6.30pm. After 10 holes of golf there will be finger food in the clubhouse and prize-giving. Covid-19 restrictio­ns will apply. The club encourages all members to take part.

OPEN WEEK The club held a successful open week recently (Monday, July 26 to Monday, August 2). Each of the sponsored daily competitio­ns, enjoyed by members and visitors, were 18hole stableford events.
