Good prices at Ballymote Mart as 1,000 sheep put up for sale
THERE was a strong entry of over 1,000 sheep at the sheep sale at Ballymote mart on Tuesday of last week. Prices for breeding type ewe lambs and for stores were very strong, quality factory types steady with prices for plainer types under pressure. Lambs under 35kg making from €45 to €67 over, eg 34kg €101, 32kg €90, 33kg €86.
Lots 35 to 40kg making from €50 to €78.50 over, eg 37.5kg €116 (Texel X mule ewe lambs) or 3.09 per kg, 38.5kg €105, 36kg €103. Lots 40 to 45kg making from €55 to €92.50 over, eg 43.5kg €136, 41.5kg €124, 40.5kg €114 (all three lots of ewe lambs for breeding), 44kg €120.
Lots 45kg to 50kg making from 57 to 82.50 over, eg 45.5kg €128, 49.5kg €130, 46.5kg €127, with heavier lots making up to €94 over, eg 56kg €150, 52.5kg €135, 51kg €134 (all ewe lambs) 57kg €140.
Cull ewes stores making from €55 to €100. Heavy lots making from €120 to €155, with quality heavy ewes making from €165 to €216 per head.
Hogget ewes, lighter types from €150 to €185. Stronger lots €190 to €220 with top lots from €230 to €255.
Two-year breeding types making from €150 to €185 per head. Older breeding ewes making from €80 to €120.
There was a strong entry of stock for last Thursday’s special weanling sale, mainly Continental types over 400kg. Bullocks under 500kg making from €500 to €800 over, eg CHx 440kg €1240, LMx 450kg €1220, CHx 495kg €1240.
Lots 500 to 600kg making from €550 to €820 over, eg LMx 520kg €1340, LMx 505kg €1260, LMx 500kg €1260, with heavier lots making up to €940 over, eg AAx 720kg €1660, AAx 715kg €1630, AAx 665kg €1560.
