An away trip to Galwegians is next on Sligo’s agenda
GIVEN an obvious confidence boost by their home win last Saturday, Sligo RFC’s first XV head to Galway City this Saturday for a Connacht Senior League round two clash with Galwegians at Crowley Park (2.30pm start). Galwegians, who are one of Sligo’s rivals in this season’s Energia All-Ireland League Division 2B, didn’t play in the opening round last weekend as they had a ‘bye’.
While Sligo were putting six tries past Buccaneers, Ballina and Galway Corinthians produced a high-scoring thriller at Heffernan Park in Mayo, Ballina winning 32-26. Meanwhile, prior to last Saturday’s game at Hamilton Park, former Sligo player Mata Fifita was presented with a framed Sligo jersey to mark his retirement from rugby. Making the presentation was Sligo RFC first XV captain Brendan Cunningham.
Elsewhere, Sligo’s second XV lost 17-6 at home to Wesport’s first XV last Saturday evening in a Cawley Cup Group Two round one game.
Sligo, who have a ‘bye’ in round two, are next in action in this competition on Sunday, September 5 when they are away to Dunmore.
