Appeal to help Easkey fishermen after fire destroyed lobster pots

-

A GoFundMe page to help two west Sligo fishermen, Eugene and Gary Kelly, get back fishing has received 33 donations since it was set up.

The page aims to help the two fishermen from Easkey who lost all their gear in a fire at Pullaheeny on December 9. Asking for help to replace the gear, Gary Kelly explained how, on December 9, all his lobster pots, pot ropes, buoys, gill nets, turbot nets, cray fish net, fish boxes and bins of bait were “all turned to ashes” as a result of the fire. Appealing for support on the page which was set up on December 22, it explains how Eugene and Gary “lost their entire life’s work in one evening”. Since the season has ended, everything they own was packed up together to be stored for the winter, but the fire burned through everything.

It adds that any donation would be greatly appreciate to help rebuild their business and get Eugene and Gary back fishing.

To date there have been 33 donations with €2,840 contributed. If you want to contribute go to their page, which is called “Gary & Eugene Kelly Fire Relief Fund”.
